Kiwi FM to meet the President

When contacted the External Affairs Ministry said that a statement on the issues discussed will be released tomorrow. New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully is to have talks with President Mahinda Rajapaksa late this evening (Wednesday), President’s spokesman Mohan Samaranayake told the Colombo Gazette.The Kiwi Foreign Minister had this morning met External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris and discussed the post war developments in Sri Lanka. However prior to embarking on his visit to Sri Lanka McCully had said that he will discuss human rights concerns on Sri Lanka during his visit. “This is a good opportunity to discuss Sri Lanka’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November, as well as prospects for our quarter-billion dollar dairy trade,” he said.He also said that he intends to discuss progress towards reconciliation following the end of the civil war.
