Fish Cakes for Breakfast

first_imgAtlantic cod and farmed salmon fish cakes are being served for breakfast Friday, June 4, at the Cunard Centre as the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture helps CBC Radio’s Information Morning celebrate its 40th birthday. The seafood offering has been part of the radio show anniversary for more than 20 years. The fish cakes, prepared by local chefs BeeChoo Char and Matt Pennell, will be available hot-off-the-grill from 6 a.m to 8:45 a.m. Nova Scotia’s fishing and aquaculture industries create good jobs in coastal communities around the province. These sectors help grow the economy by generating more than $1 billion, primarily in exports, every year. “We produce some of the highest quality seafood in the world,” said Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau. “Partnering with CBC Radio’s Information Morning is a great opportunity to reach out to the community, promote our seafood to families in Nova Scotia and talk about the health benefits of adding seafood to diets.” Nova Scotia seafood recipes will be available and staff will answer questions on where to buy, select, handle and cook Atlantic fish and seafood. The curious can check out the aquaculture aquarium containing rainbow trout and Atlantic halibut, and learn more about aquaculture species farmed in Nova Scotia. Visitors can also win tickets to the upcoming Catch the N.S. Seafood Festival being held on June 19-20.
