Lint buildup leads to East Hill apartment fire, IFD says

first_img Crews stayed on scene for about two hours to investigate the fire, which they believe was caused by a buildup of lint. New York State Police also assisted on scene.“The Ithaca Fire Department credits the building’s working alarm system with quickly notifying the residents of the fire and the sprinkler system for keeping it under control until they arrived on scene,” the IFD said in a news release. “Although most people regularly clean out the lint trap itself, IFD recommends everyone also vacuums out inside and below the lint trap as well as the vent pipe leading away from the dryer to help prevent buildup of lint which can lead to fires.”Images courtesy of the Ithaca Fire Department.
